Business Systems Technology
The Business Systems Technology program is designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that office professionals need to secure good jobs and succeed in today's computerized offices as well as the more traditional office environments.
Students have the opportunity to work and experience extensive "hands-on" training with modern office equipment and computer software. Each phase of the program has been carefully structured so that every student may reach the maximum skill level regardless of whether or not the student has had prior office training or experience.
Trainees may select a major area of interest leading to a diploma from those listed below. Within each major area, students also have the opportunity to develop the skills needed for several different certificate levels of training.
Students receive up-to-date instruction, realistic work simulations, and experience on today's most widely used office equipment. The program features articulation agreements with Dyersburg State Community College and Jackson State Community College for transition through the instructional process.
This program is a self-paced course. A student may start at any time and progress at his/her own pace. Each student is given individual instruction and need not be concerned with keeping up with fellow students.
This program has two areas of concentration: administrative assistant and accounting assistant. Each area has several exit points whereby a student may choose to leave the program with acquired training skills. Each exit point reached should enable the individual to perform certain tasks that will ordinarily be reflected in the appropriate job description. Listed below are the exit titles and approximate training hours required to meet the specific exit proficiency.
Administrative Assistant Concentration
The Administrative Assistant diploma encompasses a wide variety of training and experience designed to prepare students for a multitude of challenges in 21st Century offices. Students have an opportunity to experience all phases of office tasks.
Accounting Assistant Concentration
The Accounting Assistant concentration is designed for those students desiring to center their training specifically in the accounting field. Although students will also receive training in many office skills, the majority of training will be centered on accounting activities. Skill is developed in both manual and computerized accounting procedures.
