Computer Information Technology
The need for qualified technicians to successfully maintain and operate the hybrid of computer software and hardware equipment is becoming more crucial every day. There are many opportunities in the computer technology field. The Computer Information Technology (CIT) Program prepares the student for employment in a variety of computer-related fields in today’s technology centered society.
This program features plenty of hands-on learning, and a host of activities that will give the student a working knowledge of the most popular software applications and hardware technology available today. It also features in-depth studies of the major operating systems, networking, programming, and configuration of computers and servers. Successful graduates will possess both entry level and advanced skills necessary to secure employment in a wide range of computer specialties, such as Computer Technician, Technical Support Specialist, Software Specialist, and Network Technician.
The CIT track focuses the student into a working knowledge of hardware, operating systems, networking, and security for desktops and servers. The computer industry constantly evolves at an ever-increasing pace. Currently no one national certification exists for the CIT program. Therefore, several national certifications were referenced during the development of the competencies.
A student who completes the Desktop Technician Certificate should be able to pass the CompTIA A+ Certification Exams. As for the Networking Specialty and the Security+ competencies, a student should be prepared for the CompTIA Network+ and the CompTIA Security+ exams. Once a student acquires the IT Systems Coordinator Diploma, they will be in preparation for several other certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified System Administrator and Microsoft Certified System Engineer.
