Summer 2010 Courses

REGISTRATION: Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 6 p.m. at the Tennessee Technology Center at Covington. Fees must be paid at this time to reserve space in the class. Cash, checks, credit cards, company sponsored letters are accepted methods of payment. CLASS WILL FILL ON A FIRST-COME BASIS. A minimum number is needed for the class to meet.

Computer Related Evening Courses
Microsoft Office 2007 - Publisher 1
Create professional-looking marketing and communication publications. You will create invitations, flyers, holiday newsletters, cards, signs and more.

  • Date and Time: July 13 and 15 Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m.
  • Length: 2 classes, a total of 6 hours
  • Fees: $56.00 plus cost of book

Microsoft Office 2007 - Power Point 1
You will create and deliver presentation, design presentation, add clip art, animation, sound and insert charts.

  • Date and Time: July 20 and 22 Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m.
  • Length: 2 classes, a total of 6 hours
  • Fees: $56.00 plus cost of book

Microsoft Office 2007 - Excel 1
You will create spreadsheets for organizing, calculating and analyzing data. You will navigate spreadsheets, enter and modify data, create basic formulas, quick formatting techniques, and basic print options.

  • Date and Time: July 27 and 29 Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m.
  • Length: 2 classes, a total of 6 hours

HEALTH RELATED EVENING COURSES
Medical Billing
This is an introductory course that allow the student to become familiar with billing concepts, principles and guidelines used in a health care setting.

Prerequisite: Medical Terminology or Coding Course

  • Date and Time: May 11 - June 10, 2010 Tuesday and Thursday, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.
  • Length: Ten sessions, a total of 30 hours
  • Fees: $224.00 plus a $78.00 cost for book

IV Therapy Course for LPN’s
This course is designed to offer LPN’s the basic knowledge necessary to safely assist the registered nurse in administering and monitoring selected peripheral IV medications under the supervision of the registered nurse.

Prerequisite: You must be a currently licensed practical nurse to take this course.

  • Date and Time: July 10,17,24,31— August 7, Saturdays, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Length: 5 sessions, a total of 40 hours.
  • Fees: $457.00 Includes books and supplies

Medical Terminology
This course will enable students to interpret and understand medical terms needed for effective communication. Word roots, prefixes, suffixes used in the medical field will be covered as well as terms related to general anatomy, physiology and pathology. This course can enhance your abilities as a PNE student. TBA

Medical Coding
This is an introductory course covering coding concepts, principles and guidelines used in medical/surgical offices to assign medical diagnoses and procedures to patient health records. Prerequisite: Medical Terminology Course TBA

Industrial Courses

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program is 20-months of individualized instruction that prepares students to work in a variety of jobs in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration. Students are prepared to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential and commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps, and electrical and gas heating, and humidifiers. Students also learn the fundamentals of electricity, electric motors, and controls.

  • Length: Twenty six sessions, a total of 78 hours

Industrial Maintenance
The 16-month program is designed to provide entry level skills to accomplish the daily tasks required to maintain equipment. The curriculum include PLC’s, electronic sensors, single and three phase motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical troubleshooting, motor controls, schematic diagram reading, wiring procedures, OSHA electrical regulations, fluid power, mechanical maintenance, welding, machine application and air-conditioning and refrigeration.

Machine Tool Technology
This 20-month program develops entry level skills in the set-up and operations of machine tools. The curriculum include using lathes, milling machines, power saws, drill presses, and surface grinders. We also train in the set-up and operation of computerized numerical controlled machines and welding applications. Writing computer aided program fundamentals is also included in our training curriculum.

Welding Processes
The 12-month program is designed to prepare students for a career in welding using the various welding processes and blueprint reading. The individualized method of instruction provides for both classroom instruction and practical hands on experience using tools and welding equipment. The following processes will be taught using mild steel, aluminum and stainless steel plate and pipe: SMAW (stick), MIG, TIG, and Oxyacetylene and Plasma cutting.
