RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE STUDENT

1. You must submit all applications accurately and on time.

2. You must report accurate information. Misreporting, in most instances, is a violation of the law and considered a criminal offense punishable by fine or imprisonment.

3. You must furnish all additional information (documentation, verification, and corrections) in a timely manner.

4. You are responsible for reading and understanding all forms that you are asked to sign and for keeping copies of them.

5. You must accept responsibility for fulfilling the obligation of all agreements that you sign.

6. You must be aware and comply with the deadlines for application or re-application for aid. Each student must re-apply for each academic year. Students are responsible for following up on all paperwork turned into the Financial Aid Office to insure its receipt by that office. Note: it is not the responsibility of the Financial Aid Officer to locate students and ask for paperwork needed to complete their awards.

7. You are responsible for repaying any loans you have received from other institutions. Please see the Student Services Coordinator for information about a loan deferment.

8. You are responsible for understanding the criteria for determining that a student is in good standing, and for fulfilling the requirements for maintaining satisfactory progress.

9. You are responsible for advising the Financial Aid Office if you begin attending less than full-time or change your part-time schedule (please see Change of Status).

10. You are responsible for signing any credit memos, and/or disbursed checks and must be marked present on roll the date charges are made or checks are disbursed.

11. You are responsible for advising the Financial Aid Office of your attendance at any other post-secondary school.

12. In order to be eligible for most federal aid programs, you must not owe a refund on a previously awarded grant or be in default on payments for loans in repayment statue.

13. You are responsible for notifying the Financial Aid Office each time you change your name, social security number or your address or residence during the academic year.

14. You are responsible for paying taxes on the Federal Pell and Federal FSEOG. You are required to pay taxes on the portion of funds received not used for tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment.

15. You have the right to appeal a satisfactory progress decision.

16. You are required to report to the Financial Aid Office ALL types of financial aid received.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR

The Financial Aid Counselor must:

  • Help students prepare and submit FAFSA
  • Submit FAFSA's if the student chooses
  • Retrieve ISIR's on a daily basis (when applicable)
  • Make sure students receive their checks in a timely manner
  • Notify students selected for verification
  • Complete verification
  • Notify students of any changes in their financial aid
  • Notify students if there are changes in policies
  • Keep the student's financial aid file in order
  • Make sure students who deserve a refund receive one
  • Answer student's questions pertaining to financial aid

RIGHTS OF THE STUDENT

You have the right to know:

1. Financial aid programs available to students at the Tennessee Technology Center (TTCC).

2. Method, dates, instructions for application forms, and general information related to financial aid are available to students.

3. Criteria used to determine whether a student is making satisfactory progress.

4. Rights and responsibilities of students on financial aid.

5. Means of disbursing financial aid.

6. Cost of attendance.

7. Refund policy.

8. Academic programs offered.

9. Person(s) designated to provide financial aid information.

10. Information regarding physical access for handicapped and any special programs for handicapped students.

11. Information regarding the various types and kinds of accreditation of licenses under which the TTCC operates.

12. Drug abuse prevention program.

13. Drug-free workplace and campus information.

14. Student right-to-know data (may be obtained from Student Services).

15.  Campus security information (including sexual offenses information).

16. Phone Number of the Department of Education Student Ombudsman (1-877-557-2575).

FINANCIAL AID CHECKLIST

1. Read the Tennessee Technology Center Handbook

2. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

3. Bring or mail all parts of the Student Aid Report to the TTCC.
          The SAR should be checked for accuracy.

4. Submit an official copy of your High School Diploma/GED Scores

5. Submit all required verification documentation (if requested).

6. The Financial Aid Office will notify you of your award.

7. Sign and return Award Letter within 10 days.

Gramm-Leach Bailey Act

The administration of the Tennessee Technology Center at Covington (TTCC) is aware of the importance and objectives of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB) with regard to its importance to activities, services, or programs which use information with identifiable student numbers such as Social Security Numbers and protecting such data from unauthorized access to a student or employee's financial information. For more information regarding GLD, please see Guideline B-090 or the Student Services Office.
