East Tennessee Cyber Security Summit

Tennessee Technology Center at Covington senior students attended the fifth annual East Tennessee Cyber Security Summit on October 21st and 22nd, 2009 in Knoxville Tennessee. The FBI held a joint conference with the University of Tennessee, Fountainhead College of Technology and TVA. The agenda centered on cyber-security in the face of a downturned economy. This was an opportunity to bring together security professionals from academia, government, and private industry to evaluate everything from phishing scams and identity theft to child pornography.

The submit speaker topics included Enterprise-wide Risk Management, Top 5 Information Security Threats, Top 3 Steps to Genuine Enterprise Security, Social Networking for Information Sharing, Intellectual Property Theft, PCI Myths and Mistakes, Malware, and Case Study on Credit Card Fraud.

The attending students were Janet Hill, A+ Certified Technician, Shawn Lemcool, A+/Network+/Security+ Certified Technician, Amanda Tindall, A+/Network+/Security+/MCSA Certified Technician, and Patricia Avent Computer Information Technology Instructor. As well as gaining additional security knowledge, each attendee earned 16 hours of Continuing Professional Education.

Welding Processes
The 12-month/864 hour part-time program is designed to prepare students for a career in welding using the various welding processes and blueprint reading. The individualized method of instruction provides for both classroom instruction and practical hands on experience using tools and welding equipment. The following processes will be taught: SMAW (stick), MIG, TIG, and Oxyacetylene and Plasma cutting.

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration
The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program is a 12-month/864 hour part-time training program of individualized instruction that prepares students to work in a variety of jobs in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration. Students are prepared to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain residential air conditioning, heat pumps, and electrical and gas heating, and humidifiers. Students also learn the fundamentals of electricity, electric motors, and controls.

Automotive Technology
Automotive Technology students will receive practical experience using industry based equipment. This equipment consists of brake repair; alignment and diagnostic; heating and air conditioning testing and repair equipment, and other equipment that is related to the area of study. Automotive Technology students will receive individual hands-on training in an 8-month/560 hour part-time self-paced program. Students will receive training and experience in an automotive shop which they can apply to any job.

Award
: Heating and Air Conditioning, Suspension and Steering and Brake Technician Certificates.

Tennessee's Booster Seat and Seatbelt Safety Program

Tennessee's Booster Seat and Seatbelt Safety program is being held in Elementary schools through out the state of Tennessee.  Ollie the Otter safety Mascot and TTC Covington volunteers participate in the activities.
